Behind the Scenes: The Unpaved Path to a Promising Career
THURSDAY 10/17/2019, 10AM – 4PM
BEGINNING AT WASHINGTON COUNTY TECHNICAL HIGH SCHOOL (50 W OAK RIDGE DR, HAGERSTOWN, MD 21740)
Join us for a glimpse of growing opportunities in Washington County and educational options that lead to promising careers without a four year college degree. We will highlight the workforce needs in our area and opportunities to pursue such careers.
Our day will begin with success stories from Basheer Azizi: CEO/Founder, OpSmart Inc. and Joanie Gerber: Director of Public Relations/Maryland Operations, Columbia Smithsburg (formerly Bikle Manufacturing). Hear how they have both paved a path to a promising career and are helping others accomplish the same outcome. We will then tour four programs at Washington County Technical High School: CISCO/IT/Networking Academy, Construction, Digital Communications and Electrical. After graduation, high school students that have completed any one of these four programs can proceed into the Washington County workforce on a path to success.
During lunch, we will hear from a panel of individuals that provide post-secondary education or assist their employees in on the job training or certificate training. The panel includes: Amos McCoy: President & CEO - ABC Cumberland Valley Chapter/Barr Institute, Butch Adams: Campus Director, Hagerstown - Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics and Jason Rappaport: President - Innovative, Inc.
The afternoon will take us on a tour of two thriving businesses in our community! We will get a behind the scenes tour of Hub Labels and Columbia Smithsburg (formerly Bikle Manufacturing).
